Doug Berger has 25 years of experience as an advisor to executives on matters related to the development and execution of growth strategies, corporate entrepreneurship and results-based innovation.

Doug Berger is a Managing Director with HWSC. His deep experience with the development and implementation of business growth strategies and corporate innovation position him as being one of our senior leaders in our business growth services practice area. Mr. Berger has extensive experience serving leadership teams in strategy, operations, corporate entrepreneurship, and innovation. He has advised companies in North America, Asia and Latin America across a broad spectrum of industries including technology, chemicals, mining, consumer products, life sciences, and food. Client accomplishments included step-change improvements in revenue, profits and company valuation. Clients implemented measurable gains in key growth drivers: time to market, sales effectiveness, geographic expansion, manufacturing productivity, and new product platforms.

Prior to joining HWSC, Mr. Berger was founder and Managing Director, Innovate LLC. During his 15 years with Innovate he developed the firm’s proprietary processes for breakaway growth, internal venturing and innovation. His clients were often in the midst of fundamental industry and business model disruption. He motivated and empowered people to develop a future-oriented and agile mindset to take action under volatile, uncertain and complex conditions.

Mr. Berger has also served as adjunct faculty with Lehigh University and Dalhousie University and collaborated to develop their entrepreneurial boot camp programs for both middle market companies and students. He actively mentors start-ups in the New Jersey area and was VP business development for a start-up in the Internet-of-Things industry.

He has extensive experience writing and speaking on growth, innovation and personal empowerment. Mr. Berger has published “The Innovators ezine” featuring research and interviews with thought-leaders in academia and corporations on innovative approaches to step-up growth, profitability and company valuation. He authored the book “The Breakthrough Mind: How to surprise yourself, Start to surprise your life.” Thousands of employees have benefitted from his breakthrough education programs.

Prior to his career in management consulting, Mr. Berger held senior management positions within the technology industry in IT, national and large account sales, marketing of advanced technology, and new channels of distribution. He also co-founded “Knead to Feed” a non-profit volunteer organization that bakes and distributes artisan bread with profits going to local food banks.

Mr. Berger holds an MBA from the Tepper School at Carnegie-Mellon University and a BA in Physics from the University of Rochester.
